THE DEFINITION OF A DISCIPLE IS SOMEONE WHO IS COMMITTED TO LEARNING TO FOLLOW THE WAYS OF JESUS.
The purpose of the Church is not just to create better people, stable families, or more productive citizens. The purpose of the Church is not even to perpetuate it's own existence. The Church exists that people might enter into a faith relationship with and learn to follow the ways, teaching, and example of Jesus. We believe that if the Church begins to produce genuine followers of Jesus, families will stabilize, lives will change, and communities will be transformed.
THE MOST IMPORTANT DISCIPLESHIP OPPORTUNITIES ARE THOSE WITHIN OUR OWN FAMILIES.
Jesus asked, "What does a man profit if he gains the world but loses his soul?" We would also ask, "What do you benefit if you save the whole world, but lose your family?" Bridge42 Church desires to see the gospel go to the ends of the earth, but we recognize that it must start in our families and neighborhoods. So, whether God has called you to go to the Ends of the Earth, or just to the end of the hallway, we desire to equip one another to fulfill His calling in our lives.
WE WERE DESIGNED TO LIVE, LEARN, GROW, AND FLOURISH IN COMMUNITY.
John Wesley wrote, "The Gospel of Christ knows of no religion, but that which is practiced in community." Scripture calls the Church a family, and we cannot learn to be Disciples of Jesus if we isolate ourselves from our brothers and sisters. Every week we have several opportunities for worship, prayer, and bible study, and we strongly encourage everyone to get involved and share life with a group of believers.
WE MUST RESIST THE TEMPTATION TO CONFORM SCRIPTURE TO OUR WAY OF THINKING. WE MUST CONFORM OUR WAY OF THINKING TO SCRIPTURE.
We believe the Scripture is God's Message to humanity. Therefore, we don't have the right to skip over, ignore, twist, or explain away anything it says. We must do our best to come to Scripture with a blank slate and let it inform and guide every area of our lives.
